Welcome!

Welcome to Anime for Libraries! This website has been designed to be used by librarians looking for professional and informative reviews of anime (or Japanese animation.) Created by and maintained by librarians and library professionals who actually like anime, the focus of the site is to provide the information we believe will be most useful to others in the library profession trying to decide which anime to buy for their libraries.

Instead of a brief, mostly subjective review, we try to provide as much information as possible so that librarians can be aware of anything that might send up a “red flag” or upset a patron. We not only review the anime, but also the special features and the previews, because we know that these things are sometimes the trigger for requests for reconsideration.

We in no way endorse censorship, and only make suggestions on where in a library collection we believe it will be most beneficial to house these items based on our own professional experiences. Most of us come from a library district that has teen or Young Adult collections, so we often recommend those sections to house anime. If your library does not have a teen/ YA collection, please consider those recommendations to be for your adult collections. Because every library district is different, the ultimate decision on where to catalog and house these items is in your hands. We can assume no responsibility for the outcomes of your decisions, and encourage you to use other reviews in addition to ours when making your decisions if possible.

Each review is spilt up into five sections:

·     General information, such as the title and the production company's rating, comes at the top,

·     “What it’s (basically) all about” is a summary of the anime that the review is about,

·     the “Nitty Gritty” gives the specific details and information that we think librarians will want to know,

·     “Survey says” is where you will find our professional opinion on which collection the anime should probably be housed in.

·     “Personal Ad” is where you get a subjective opinion on the anime, just in case you find that information pertinent.

New reviews have a New! next to them, and updated reviews have Updated! next to them.

We at Anime for Libraries hope that you find this resource useful in making educated decisions about what anime to buy for your library. If you have any questions please feel free to email us (see “About” section for contact information.)
