Review based on whole series (episodes 1-2)

Rating TV MA

What it’s (basically) all about: Poemi wants one thing in life- to become a voice actress.  Unfortunately, all things go wrong and instead of becoming a voice actress she has to move in with a classmate’s family, save the world and avenge her dead parents. Sort of.

Nitty Gritty: There is very little I can say about this show that will make sense, mostly because the show itself is one giant inside joke. Shinichi Watanabe (the director) has his own brand of parody film making, and is most noted for Excel Saga. Anyone who is familiar with Excel will be more prepared for what Poemi has in store. (Incidentally, the character Nabeshin- who is also in Excel Saga- is the director himself...WataNABE-SHINichi.)

The MA rating on this is well deserved, as there is nudity, sexual misconduct, fetishism, aliens with long ball-and-chain like appendages hanging from between their legs, misuse of a daikon radish, and foul language (including  sh*t, suckhead, and the F-bomb.) There is also sexual innuendo in nearly every moment of the show. Keep in mind the whole series is only two episodes long. It moves at a break neck pace and Poemi herself is virtually impossible to understand sometimes. Ironically, the plot itself isn't that hard to follow.

The show itself (with all the sexual content aside) is actually well done, and most notably makes fun of shows like Sailor Moon. However, the sexual content cannot be ignored and it takes a strong will to get past it and see the humor.

Special features include cast commentary for both episodes (not for children but very funny), footage of the cast commentary recording (kind of hard to hear, but worth watching), clean opening/ closing animation, production sketches, character art gallery, DVD credits, and a “weird subtitles” feature that is the regular subtitles in Pig Latin. Previews are for Excel Saga, Azumanga Daioh, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Cosplay Complex, Super Gals!, and Wedding Peach.

Survey says: This is for adult collections.

Personal Ad: I’m taking Stan and Kyle’s advice and staying out of this one.
