Teacher: Hot for Teacher

Review based on volume 1 (episodes 1-4)
Rating 16+
What it’s (basically) all about: 18 year old Kei suffers from a disorder that makes him black out when he’s stressed. He lives with his aunt and uncle, and lies about his age because when he was in junior high he blacked out for three years. One night while hanging out by the lake he sees a UFO, and a beautiful alien names Mizuho Kazami. Who knew the alien would end up his teacher? And who knew that a series of misunderstandings and secrets would end up getting him married to her?
Nitty Gritty: Kei has a lecherous uncle, who seems to be thrilled with the idea of his eighteen year old nephew having a secret love affair with his older teacher. There is some fan service (mostly boob shots and Mizuho wearing tight spandex), but there is no bad language or nudity.
The teacher, Mizuho Kazami, is a half human-half alien working for the Galaxy Federation as an observer. Of course, her cover is blown when Kei sees her land, and in a series of mishaps and misunderstandings (including the two of them warping into his uncle’s bathtub in an attempt to escape a black hole) they end up having to lie to keep from telling the truth and getting Mizuho in trouble with the Galaxy Federation, and consequently end up married.
Mizuho’s attempts to try and understand Earth account for some of the misunderstandings, but a growing attraction and emotional connection between the “newlyweds” also leads to some, as well as the comedic antics endured to keep everyone else from figuring out what’s going on- including Kei’s school friends and a girl who has a huge crush on him.
Extras include a trailer, a promo clip, commercials, an episode one preview, design gallery, and DVD credits. Bandai previews are for Arjuna, Tsukikage Ran (Carried by the Wind), and Love Hina.
The entire series is out in collections, too, if you’d rather not order it volume by volume.
Survey says: This series is a good one for Young Adult collections. Though the rating says 16+, I didn’t see anything that a younger teen wouldn’t see on primetime TV in volume 1.
Personal Ad: I thought this was cute. It wasn’t raunchy or over the top, and somehow the I-married-my-teacher-is-an-alien plot works in a believable manner. The series follows in tradition of things like Chobits, only I think better for a younger audience.
