What it’s (basically) all about: What happens when an inventor takes the brain from his son’s cat and puts it in the body of a female teenage android? You get the most powerful feline bodyguard in Japan, that’s what. Too bad she’s so confused by everything around her!
Nitty Gritty: Opens with Anime Network and Newtype USA promos (as of this writing Newtype USA is now PIQ Magazine.) Special features are clean open and closing animation, DVD credits, and ADV previews for Nuku Nuku Dash!, Super Gals!, Wedding Peach, Happy Lesson, Angelic Layer and Pretear.
The language/ violence is pretty mild- damn and hell are used in both subtitles and dubbed versions, but other than that the whole show is more of your standard Saturday morning cartoon variety. Much of the action takes place with Nuku Nuku battling robots designed by the Mishima Industry, whose leader is “trying to take over the world.” (He’s running his research and development as if it were an evil organization, much to his subordinates’ chagrin.) There’s also quite a bit of Nuku Nuku trying to understand humans, which is funny and sometimes even poignant.
Survey says: This is appropriate for teen collections, and teen brains, too.
Personal Ad: I thought this was cute, if not original. There are some very classic anime themes here. It is also available as a complete set.
